Help – I’m a multipotentialite!

Let me first of all reassure you: it is not a disease or a dangerous alien race. I learned about the term when I first watched the TED talk of Emilie Wapnick and I noticed a link with one of my earlier blogs. Emilie explains there is nothing wrong with not being (or not wanting to be) an expert in a single field. Like her, I have a very open mind, always eager to learn, always applying my previous experience to new environments. Companies are often afraid to hire a multipotentialite. After all, HR usually puts a lot of time [...]

Dominant Groups

If I were to ask whether you felt you belong to a dominant group or a non-dominant group, what would you reply? Perhaps this little test can help?  According to classical sociological definition, a dominant group is one with the upper hand, power, social status and / or certain privileges. The dominant group is often the one which sets out and controls the values system, i.e. what is considered right and wrong. I don’t like Freelancers

To put it in perspective, I don’t like the term “Freelance”. Too many people incorrectly interpret this as “a not-loyal job-hopper that will leave as soon as a better offer pops up.” I much more prefer the term “Independent Contractor.” Contrary to what is thought, a Contractor needs to have a very high level of loyalty towards the customer. The Contractor is there to solve a specific problem and needs to deliver the highest quality possible. In case of any lapse in performance, the assignment can quickly be terminated. This is not usually the case with employee contracts in most [...]

Our future is circular

Are you happy in your organisational box? Or have you left it for a network, or a community, or even a tribe? Last Thursday, I had the pleasure to speak about the future of our organisational boxes at our  recent Partnership event 'Digital Transformation: what's next?’ A few years ago many people started to ‘think out of the box’ but now I say it’s time to jump out of our organizational boxes. After all, who likes to be put in a box, especially an organizational one? However, still today, many companies draw their organisational boxes and put their employees into [...]
