Rainy day thoughts

Rainy day thoughts

I have a giant backlog of work; taken too much on again. So here I am on a Sunday afternoon behind the screen of a computer while the rain gently falls on the flat roof of my home office. I have been here all day, I need a break and a boost to get me through. But I am still smiling because, this last half an hour I have been listening to a CD that has lifted my spirits – Steely Dan’s ‘Countdown to Ecstasy’. I haven’t heard it for years, probably more than 30! It doesn’t so much as take me back to a golden age because I think my golden age is now. Rather, it reminds me of just how exceptional Donald Fagan, Walter Becker and Gary Katz were.

In times of uncertainty, there’s comfort in the things we know. Looking back, life always seems so in control and yet I am sure it wasn’t at the time.  I remember being young, broke and scared as to how I would ever pay off my 16kEUR home loan. I admit it was a long time ago and glad it is.

In business too, it’s easy to look back on the old days as somehow better, simpler, more exciting. Perhaps they were, or perhaps it was just the thrill of all the uncertainty?

I love Sundays, I can work if I want to, or I can tell myself, ‘Harley, stop – it’s Sunday for goodness sake!’

Have a good week,

Harley
